Best until last at the Bath Fi

The highlight of the last few days of the Bath Film festival, if not the whole festival, will be the presentation of a newly restored version of The Red Shoes, generally accepted to be one of the greatest films ever.

The completely restored Technicolor print which wowed audience at Cannes this year can be seen at the Little Theatre tonight.

Tomorrow there is a documentary called Afghan Star which looks at how a TV talent show in Afganistan is taking the country by storm following decades of war and Taliban rule. It shows at Chapel Arts at 7pm.

Also tomorrow at Chapel Arts at 9.30pm is the Spanish film Timecrimes, the story of a man caught unwittingly inside a temporal labyrinth. It’s a stunning feat of narrative architecture with moments of candid horror.

On Saturday the Little Theatre is showing Bunny and the Bull, another show that didn’t make it to Bath first time around.

In this film Stephen hasn’t left his flat for more than a year. He lives an obsessive compulsive
embroidered patches life dictated by a closely followed regime. That is until a rodent infestation makes it impossible to keep to the narrow tramlines of his life. The film has a 9.30pm showing.

Also on Saturday and fresh from a tour of European festivals comes SonVer at the Michael Tippett Centre at 7.30pm. The Alchemy of Man is a creative audio-visual collaboration between seven independent European filmakers and SonVer, an arresting four-piece Londonbased ensemble headed by Joanna Quail on electric cello and Ben Lees on guitar.
